How to play the fan translation of mother 3?

Hey, so I'm interested in playing the earthbound/mother series, and I already have ways of playing earthbound. However, I heard that mother 3 is a bit complicated when it comes to the English translation. So can somebody just simply explain to me how I can play the fan translation of mother 3?

Is the EB0 anti piracy screen bluffing?

Browsing Google Images for mock-anti-piracy screens, since that's the hip thing right now, I come across one from EB0, and it turns out it's actually legit. At the bottom of the text, it says "This illegal copy of NES EARTHBOUND will no longer function.". What I want to know is what happens if you play the game again? Will it immediately go to that screen, or will it not even turn on?
