| I didn't realize Undertale got so much of its identity from Mother 3 Posted: 02 May 2021 06:50 AM PDT I played Mother 3 when Undertale came out but I never finished it (I guess I got stuck). Now I finally beat it! And wow, one of the most surprising things to me is how much Undertale was obviously inspired by the last fight and the ending of Mother 3. I assume the idea for the whole pacifist thing came from here. It's also clear that a lot of things in Omori were inspired by Mother 3. Like how everyone suddenly got jobs at the factory. | earthbound might just be my favorite piece of media ever Posted: 02 May 2021 04:06 PM PDT so i recently finished earthbound, everything about it is stellar gameplay: it is kind of standard for rpgs i guess, but it is still great, the battling system is simple but it is really affective, at least imo. the way the hp bar works allows for some really cool ways to make your life both easier and harder, with the exploding trees and being able to heal your party member after mortal damage is done to you for example. and other than the battles just talking to random npcs to see what they have to say is really enjoyable wich leads me to story: i really like how it is set in the real world, and how it is shown that many of your roadblocks are not caused by giygas but actually just normal life, it makes it really believeable that a being like giygas would be able to take controll of and destroy earth. giygas is an amazing looming threat aswell and pokey being an amazing secondairy villain that is an actual character so we get the best of both worlds, and pokeys motivation for being a villain makes sense as well, he believes that you cannot defeat giygas so if he works with giygas he will not be destroyed with the world, as well as being a fun villain that balances being funny and threatening as well, wich brings me to what i think earthbound does the best, it balances its tone amazingly, the thing that informs you that you are the chosen one at first is a fucking bee and is later re iterated by a talking rock, and you have some legitamately creepy parts in giygases final boss fight, and some parts that are both, the happy happy village and poos training come to mind. graphics/artstile: earthbound looks like an 8 bit game with 16 bit color palate, that is amazing, something about it just really works for me and it is really hard to explain why but it just does music: its really relaxing to listen to while also sounding really good while being able to tune it out and focus on something, wich is what video game music should do, another one where i really cant describe why it works so much for me but it does in conclusion: i really cant emphasize how amazing earthbound is, how much love was put into it and just how much fun i had with it and how magical it feels playing it, and the fact that it is so influential on many modern indie games shows how really great this game is. i saw that the game that wierd kid from smash bros was in was on vertual console on the wii u and nagged my mom to get it for me, it was the best decision of my life [link] [comments] | ||
