Posted: 18 May 2021 10:36 PM PDT In MOTHER 3, the story talks about how great the people of Tazmiliy are, how happy they are without modern technology or modern means of entertainment, and how they give away things for free. In contrast, when a modern civilization enters the picture and attempts to bring them into the 21st century, they are shown as more corrupt, selfish, vain, and more. Just contrast how gaudy, crowded, and dreary yet colorful New Pork City is compared to original Tazmilly. For years, one of the premises of MOTHER 3 was that it shows the influence that modern technology has on communities, such as the family, and it shows what screens (HAPPY Boxes) do to us to take away our authenticity and fulfillment in living life. It seems very likely to me that Itoi has read some of Professor Kaczynski's work and was is a fan of it, and I'll admit, he does bring up some good and interesting points, especially if you take out his unnecessary actions against other people.
