    Playing Earthbound for the first time ever on my DS - just got back to Threed and have a quick question

    So I always wanted to play Earthbound, and got a little ways in on an iPhone version years ago before it had its app license pulled or whatever and I lost my progress and never got to pick it up again. Recently I bought a 3DS and discovered I could actually play the SNES ports (had a 2DS that couldn't years ago, too) and was extremely pumped, so I picked it up.

    Anyway, I've been greatly enjoying Earthbound so far, with it's clever writing and spectacularly charming art. I've found myself using a guide a lot so I don't miss things, but I also keep almost spoiling myself on things so I want to ditch the guide and just play, but I have a couple questions:

    Are there any major, permanent, you-miss-this-you-fucked-up moments that sometimes crop up in older JRPGs? That's the main reason why I've been using a guide, so I don't miss something critical or whatever. It's also hard to know which items do stuff, and which are utterly useless like the protractor/ruler, so the guide has been hella helpful in letting me know when I can escargot something, but other than that I'm not too keen on it.

    Second - Jeff's inventing. I just got to Threed and kept the broken stuff I picked up along the way. I repaired one thing and got the Defense Spray, so my understanding is every time I rest I have a 25% chance to fix one of the items, like the Broken Pop Gun, each time, and that after that 25% chance fix, it goes back to 100%, and so on. I also know that there's an IQ requirement for his fixes, and for the stuff in Threed (Pop Gun and I think the broken pipe) it's 12. I tried resting at the hotel maybe thirty times in a row, and nothing got fixed. Is that just bad luck, or do I need to level Jeff up until it's over 12?

    Confusing occurance in Earthbound

    Hey, so here's what happened

    I was playing earthbound yesterday and i'm still in Onett as this is a new save. I go into giants step and kill an enemy called "Rowdy Mouse" and I got an item called "Bomb"

    I was really confused as I had never got this item before but thought nothing of it and turned the game off. Well, I just came back to the game and the item is now a cookie?! Does anybody know why this happened? Thanks in advance.
