    How it could have been...

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 02:21 PM PST

    Imagine if:

Mother is localized and published as usual. It went over well with the public and developed a fan base immediately

Mother 2 comes out and is helped out of it's bad marketing by having a solid fan base to back it once it released.

Mother 3 is actually released as its 64 version and sells well just like the other games. At this point the mother games have developed a Fred of being console-cappers. Closing off the respective systems life with a bang.

Mother 4 is subsequently made for the GameCube. This is also the final game Itoi worked on because he felt what e wanted to do with the series was completed.

Mother 5 for the Wii has some changes from the absence of Itoi and the Wii's motion control requirement. It's the most decisive of the franchise, but still an overall great game

Mother 6 is in the same boat as BOTW. Down to also being a launch title for the switch. I actually had and idea while writing this hypothetical for a mechanic in the game. Using the game pad to draw a pattern and based on how well you do, the psi power has a greater effect.

Finally Mother 7 on switch. Like almost every other switch game, it on par with the best in the franchise. Not much else to say it would just be a great switch game and mother game

    Old Unreleased Mother remake

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 01:06 AM PST

I'm looking for information on an old fan remake of Mother I discovered over a decade ago. It was not Tomato's EarthBound hack but a remake built from computer software similar to Mother Encore. I remember it being made with RPG Maker and the creator had uploaded a video on YouTube that featured the album version of Eight Melodies, but I can no longer find the video. I do apologize if this sounds too much like a TOMJ request, I'm just interested in compiling a history of attempted Mother remakes and unfortunately I can't find info on this one anymore. Seems like it's not just vaporware but any and all info has disappeared from the web

just played week 7 best thing ever

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 10:17 PM PST

On my 30th-ish play of EB, Ness’s dad called about taking a break right after the credits, after waking up to door knocking. I’d never seen this before and laughed out loud seeing it. What a great time for Ness’s dad to randomly call. Still haven’t gotten the sword of kings though...

Theory: Ness and his friends saved Giygas

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 06:07 PM PST

For the tl;dr: The praying brought Giygas back to his senses which in turn saved him from truly becoming an irrational entity of evil and in turn, may have returned the Chosen Four back to the present.

For those of you that know, Ness and friends aren't exactly killing all of their enemies but rather saving them by bringing them back to their senses. By this logic, Ness, well Paula, may have instead saved Giygas from himself.

When Pokey turned off the Devil's Machine, it may have very killed Giygas with Giygas's own power destroying his body. Yet Giygas persists, he may have become some kind of PSI entity that no one could comprehend. As we know, the only way to defeat Giygas is to have Paula pray. These prayers are filled with the thoughts of safety for the Chosen Four by the people they met on their journey. These are what defeat Giygas. Why would the good thoughts for Ness and friends defeat Giygas? It could very well be because that Giygas is in pain from what he has become. We can see with his dialogue that Giygas is in pain, then happy and even tells Ness to go back. The happy thoughts may have very well caused Giygas to feel good or happy, like back when he was Giegue and was comforted by Maria. So while the Chosen Four set out to defeat Giygas, that in turn saved Giygas from himself.

And as we know, Giygas's speech is strange. He is in pain, then feels happy and good and repeats Ness's name over and over and tells Ness to go back. Yet at no point is Giygas's speech antagonistic. Giygas may have become conscious of what he has become and even saved Ness and friends in return. Dr. Andonauts makes it clear that he isn't sure if the Chosen Four can even return to the present or to their bodies. Yet during the battle, Giygas tells Ness to go back. Giygas may have returned the Chosen Four back to their time and their bodies.
