    Is there an emulator/mod that'll let you play the anti-piracy difficulty without the crash?

    I heard the OG earthbound had an anti-piracy measure where pirated copies would load in a lot more enemies and make the game much harder (but not unplayably so), but it freezes right before the final boss. Has anyone gone in and made a hack where you can play that difficulty, and also finish the game?

    Are there any major differences between the Earthbound Zero ROM hack and the original unmodified Earthbound Beginnings?

    So here's a recap of what I'm aware of so that we're on the same page:Earthbound Beginnings is the new official name of Earth Bound, the originally unreleased localization of Mother 1, given to it in 2015 when it was released officially for the first time on the Wii U Virtual Console to differentiate it from the sequel that adopted it's original English name. However, the ROM was actually discovered and in public circulation for a very long time dating all the way back to the late 90's. However, the ROM had trouble running on emulators at the time where it would crash when trying to load text boxes, so a hack was made by Demiforce that fixed it and removed the anti-piracy checks that were in the game so that it could run just fine on emulators, and also retitled the game to Earthbound Zero to distinguish it from it's sequel [and became the nickname for it until 2015], and the ROM was used for over a decade as the default, even after computers started being able to run the original ROM unmodified just fine. However, something I just want to double-check since it's been a long time since I was super into Earthbound:did Earthbound Zero change anything in the actual gameplay, or was it just the aforementioned patches and the only difference you'd find in casual play between the original and the hack is the "zero" on the title screen? I can't really find too much information that leads one way or the other outside of a post on this very sub which asked a similar question but didn't seem to know Zero was an unofficial ROM hack and didn't receive a straight answer to what I want to know.
